It was all a dream: meet VJ Bikkel

As a young boy VJ Bikkel was a computer enthousiast, often remixing video’s from a very slow computer in his bedroom. One of these video’s became a cult classic raking in 1,5 million views on youtube. Once he touched on vj-ing he was bit by the bug and got to practice vjing by doing a random try-out gig at Paradiso amsterdam. Which catapulted himself into multiple opportunities: he got allowed into the VJAcademy Amsterdam, became a resident at the prolific Encore nights in Melkweg Amsterdam and was featured on a prime-time tv segment: De Wereld Draait Door. He is found yearly rocking multiple shows at the biggest pop festival of the Netherlands: A Campingflight to Lowlands.

Hollands most booked HipHop VJ:

As a true hiphop head Bikkel’s heart always ticks a bit harder when it comes to black music. This formed Bikkel as a bit of an odd one in the Dutch VJ scene which is mainly established in EDM and Hardstyle music. Being at the right moment at the right time pioneered Bikkel into becoming a mega venue and Events Hiphop, R&B and Dancehall VJ. Becoming one of Amsterdams most booked local vj’s branching out nationally and internationally. Because of this, legends like T-Pain, Rick Ross, Wizkid, Diplo, Big Sean, Future and Burnaboy performed while bikkel was vj-ing his own works. He went on to do headline dedicated shows with Frenna in 2022 in venue’s like AFAS live and the lowlands Alpha Stage. A full list of venue’s perfomed can be found below.

Projection Mapping:

Projecting on a normal projection screen can become boring at one point. Bikkel has all the knowhow and experience to project on custom sculptures, buildings and do costumized LED screen setups.

LEDschermen:

I rock LED screens at big festivals in any size or form, just make sure I get the pixelmap in time. I collaborate with multiple lighting engineers to synchronize, innovate and most important: create a vibe.

Creating a VIBE:

In a “kill-em with kindness” approach, my approach to vj-ing is not to be agressive behind the faders, whilst I definately totally can slaughter a VJ set when the music is asking for it. I am fascinated with creating subtle moving vibes. I like to take it slow. Create these subtle motions and movements.

Internationally oriented:

Bikkel’s main goal is bringing the highest level of visual experience. As the Netherlands is a very prolific country in the international event scene. Bikkel can proudly and arrogantly state he is a true A1 goat, put some respect on his name. So thus he performed in Bali, Tokyo, Accra, Antwerp and more. As a born and raised native from Amsterdam. Bikkel can be at schiphol airport in 30 minutes ready to bring the best of Amsterdam to any side of the globe! Bikkel wants to delevop relationships on the other side of the globe, also offering a workshop and eduction program to build up skills ashore. Bikkel is looking to collaborate with artists to do full shows and festivals/club-nights for full experiences. Bikkel is also approachable for European VJ tours.

I always try to build a premium experience arround your festival brand. Thus I tend to create flashy flat-look graphics and cinematic 3d versions of your festival logo which breathe production value. VeeJaying is het audiovisueel aansterken van een evenement door gebruik te maken van projectie en/of beeldschermen. Na een spectaculaire VJ-ontmaagding in de bovenzaal van Paradiso Amsterdam was er geen sprake van bindingsangst: “VJ Bikkel” is geboren. De missie: Visuals maken die de sfeer van de avond ademen, maar ook weten te verassen. Een samenspel creëren met DJ en lichtman waarin gezocht wordt naar een balans tussen beeld en geluid. In 2013 werd VJ Bikkel toegelaten tot de VeejayAcademy na zichzelf bewezen te hebben in de finale in de grote zaal van Paradiso Amsterdam. Inmiddels is Bikkel resident van meerdere toonaangevende feesten in Amsterdam. In 2015 verscheen Bikkel bij de Wereld Draait Door. In 2018 en 2019 rockte hij Lowlands.

In hart en nieren een echte fan van undergroundmuziek, met een voorliefde voor alles wat hiphop is. Met een eigen stijl is Bikkel niet alleen te vinden op house, techno, uk bass, trap en futurebeats avonden: Ondertussen staat Bikkel op grote hiphop festivals als Encore Festival, Lowlands, Pitchfestival, Pal Mundo en Oh My! en doet hij shows voor Frenna en Broederliefde. Met meer dan 70 hiphop gerelateerde boekingen in een jaar, mag Bikkel zich de grootste hiphop VJ van Nederland noemen. T-Pain, Rick Ross? Diplo? Big Sean? Future? Ronnie Flex? Bikkel heeft veel grote namen voor z’n schermen gehad.

Projection Mapping is de overtreffende trap binnen de VJ wereld. In plaats van een doek is het podium je canvas. Unleash de audiovisuele ervaring buiten het gangbare kader. Projecteren op gebouwen of kunstobjecten? Yes we can.

Ledschermen zijn tegenwoordig niet meer weg te denken uit het evenementencircuit. Bikkel werkt nauw samen met een ledfabrikant, een producent en een belichter om nieuwe innovatieve podiumervaringen neer te zetten.
